How do I know if I need a fire alarm?

UK fire alarm regulations, state that all business buildings must have ‘an appropriate fire detection system’. This means that in the event of a fire, there needs to be a service in place for that fire to be detected and for occupants to be warned. This does not mean that all business premises need a fire alarm system.
However, due to the differences between buildings and the type of work that takes place inside it, a fire alarm system may be essential to protect the occupants of your building. Learn more about Fire Alarm systems.

Who is responsible for carrying out the fire risk assessment?

Depending on your building type, employers or those responsible for the building will be in charge of carrying out a fire risk assessment. If you’re in need of fire risk assessment training, then STF Solutions can provide this for a variety of premises. Book a fire risk assessment with STF Solutions.

Are there fire safety standards that I need to comply with?

Fire safety legislation in England and Wales states that a fire risk assessment must be taken out, where a detection system needs to be in place. This is so occupants can be warned in the case of a fire emergency.

Do I need fire extinguishers?

There is no law stating that a property owner must install fire extinguishers. However, a fire risk assessment must be completed, identifying all the possible hazards in the premises and the methods to prevent them.
